Why Strong Christian Men Are Important (and How to Be One)

How to Be a Godly Christian Man
In recent years, there has been the strongest attack on Godly masculinity this world has ever seen. It is absolutely unprecedented and often goes unspoken.
The Conflicting Views of Modern Masculinity
The problem is that on one hand, there is a community of men that pervert the zeal of manhood into defiling their bodies with more women and selfishly seeking power. While on the other extreme, there's a community promoting that men should stop pursuing their God-given zeal of manhood and give in to a way of living they weren’t designed for.
These two extremes are the opposite of how God has called us to live as Christian men. They both take on a way of living that is gratifying to the flesh but not to the spirit. They have become increasingly popular but will lead you down a path of destruction that will leave you empty and broken in the long run.
“For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.” – Romans 8:13
The Bible gives us incredible wisdom and role models that help us navigate the treacherous waters of culture that we find ourselves living in. My goal here is to present you with two steps on how to align yourself with Biblical masculinity so that you can live a life that honors God.
Learn to Die to Your Flesh and Pick Up Your Cross
This part might be the hardest, but it’s one of the most important. The Bible speaks quite clearly that our hearts are deceitful. When we put heart and flesh together, we see adultery and immorality in every form flourish. That’s why we need to learn to die to our fleshly nature and pick up the mind of Christ.
In a very practical sense, this means prioritizing your daily time with God every single day. God is our daily bread and the One we come to in order to refill our spirit. Without intimacy with God, we can easily fall back into old patterns and walk in our flesh.
“So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.” – Galatians 5:16
Start Embracing Christ-like Servanthood
Have you ever thought about why Jesus came down and acted like a servant? Like, Jesus is King—yet instead of using His kingship to rule, He used it to serve. This was, and has always been, a completely counter-cultural way of living.
“In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!” – Philippians 2:5-8
In a practical way, think about how you can serve one person in your sphere of influence today. Do an action that goes beyond what you would normally do for them. Also, make sure to regularly check your heart for any prideful thoughts.
In Summary
Living a life aligned with Biblical masculinity can be an extremely difficult task in our increasingly sinful culture. There are tons of paths we can take—yet only a life with God will truly satisfy us. Godly men are the foundation of society, and that’s why it’s more important now than ever to pick up our cross and be the hands and feet of Jesus.
